Our Golden Mystery Snails have dual benefits — they add a burst of color to your home aquarium and also act as aquarium clearers! They consume uneaten fish food, shrimp food, plus they clear off glass, aquatic plants, and tank decorations. They also filter tank substrate to keep it the correct color. These peaceful snails grow large as adults, growing up to 3 inches in diameter, and are safe with any nonaggressive fish, shrimp, some species of freshwater crabs (such as Micro Thai Crabs, aka Limnopilos naiyanetri), and live plants (such as an Anubias aquarium plant, Staurogyne repens, etc.). Gold Mystery Snail shells are a bright, cheery golden yellow color, so they are essentially living aquarium art. Their bodies are pearly white with breathtaking iridescent markings. Compared to other freshwater snails, Mystery Snails are characteristically more active and playful and can often be seen scaling aquarium walls, extending their antennae in search of food, and climbing up aquarium tubes to the water line to breathe. Because of this, ensure the water line in your aquarium is low enough or keep an aquarium hood (such as mesh aquarium netting) in place so your snails cannot escape. We often ship smaller sized (.25 to 1.5 inches) snails so you can enjoy them longer and watch them grow. A young Mystery Snail can double in size over the course of two weeks to months.
